Small Business Credit Card Processing: How to justify the expense of a merchant account in your head – it’s really not that expensive so why fret?
How many different services do you have to help run your business?
The other day I took a survey of some of the services we use and here’s what I found.
- Telephone Service
- Internet Service
- Website Hosting
- Marketing
- Advertising
- Utilities
- Computer
- Equipment
- Office Rent
- Accounting
- Vehicles
- Suppliers
- Shipping & Postage
- Cellular Service
All of these services are important to operating our business and accepted as necessary monthly expenses to run the business.
Small Business Credit Card Processing Most Important Business Expense
So I always find it a bit peculiar when I ask merchants about their monthly expenses and all agree that they have the same similar expenses that they must pay to be successful but when it comes to the expense of what may arguably be the most important business service (a small business credit card processing account) why is price even an issue?
Think about it, the only way you can survive in business is to generate sales and in today’s economy they only way to virtually guarantee payment is by using small business credit card processing.
If you think about it, small business credit card processing is a bargain!
Most service providers have a few small monthly fixed expenses such as
- Monthly Statement fee of around $10
- Monthly virtual terminal & gateway charge of $15
- Minimum monthly processing requirement of $15
Small Business Credit Card Processing Is Very Cost Effective
So when you add it all up, it would cost you under $50 to accept credit cards even if you never had a single sale!
When you do have a sale, you’ll pay a small percentage of the sale usually between 1.69% to 2.5% but remember any percentages you give up are tax deductible as are the monthly service fees for small business credit card processing.
There’s no disputing that it’s a good thing to do your homework and get a good deal on all of your business services especially in today’s economy.
But being pennywise and pound foolish could be detrimental to the success of your business if you don’t use small business credit card processing.
